The Richmond Times-Dispatch is hiring a professional journalist for our Copy Desk. The desk has one of the broadest reaches at the paper -- we produce the national/international section, and we edit local news and business stories. And Richmond, the capital of Virginia, is a growing region that is near the beach, the mountains and the nation's capital.
Three or more years of daily-newspaper or wire-service experience preferred, but talented editors with less experience will be considered. Editing experience is required. Reporting and/or design experience is a plus. Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, with basic English courses and broad liberal-arts curriculum preferred.
There is plenty of interaction with other departments on issues of judgment, writing and design (although we have a separate news design desk, we want editors who "think visually"). Confidence is a must: You will be relied on to ask tough questions and make difficult decisions about stories. Must know AP style, love the English language and be highly skilled in fact-checking. Flexibility to work nights and weekends.
