who are currently completing their freshman, sophomore, or junior

FYI...
PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIPS IN COMMUNICATIONS FOR MINORITIES
The Louis Carr Internship Foundation (LCIF) is accepting
applications until March 1, 2006 for Summer 2006 paid internships in
communications from minority students, who are now completing their
freshman, sophomore or junior year of college.
The Foundation w! ill award twenty (20) paid internships at top
advertising, marketing, media information technology and other
communications-related businesses in Chicago, Detroit, New York, and
Washington, DC. Interns, who are matched with mentors, will
participate in an 8 or 10 weeks paid internship. Interns obtain
valuable hands-on experience plus insight into the challenges and
rewards of careers in the communications industry.
Please help the Foundation communicate the paid internship
opportunities to your students. All details and the application form
for Summer 2006 internships are only available on the Foundation's
website at
http://www.louiscarrfoundation.org/ .
In 2003, Louis Carr, President of Broadcast Media Sales at BET,
created the Foundation to increase multiculturalism and to enhance
diversity within the communications industry. A veteran of over 20
years in the industry,
after hearing much talk in the industry about the under-
representation of minorities, but witness! ing very little action,
he established the internships to ensure more diversity.
LCIF internships give highly motivated minority students, who cannot
afford to take non-paying summer internships, a chance to get career-
building experiences in top communications companies while earning
needed money for college.
Also, the LCIF internship program helps companies to identify,
recruit, and maintain a multicultural workforce, which reflects the
changing racial composition of the USA and the challenges of
multicultural global markets.

Comments from LCIF Alumni are on the Foundation's website. Thank you
in
advance for disseminating information on the Louis Carr Internship
Foundation to your colleagues and students.

NYABJ Screening

The New York Association of Black Journalists
Invites you to a very special screening of
the Oscar-nominated South African film
"TSOTSI"
TSOTSI is a gritty and moving portrait of an angry young man living in a state of extreme urban deprivation. His world pumps with the raw energy of "Kwaito music" - the modern beat of the ghetto that reflects his troubled state of mind.
The film is a psychological thriller in which the protagonist is compelled to confront his own brutal nature and face the consequences of his actions. It puts a human face on both the victims and the perpetrators of violent crime and is ultimately a story of hope and a triumph of love over rage.

Sports Emmy Judging Gigs

This is to inform all panel supervisors that the Sports Emmy judging will take place every day from Monday February 27 through Tuesday March 21. On weekdays we will be using four screening rooms, therefore I will need about 4 panel supervisors for the weekdays. On the weekends we will be using the 4 rooms as well as various offices as we have done in the past, in this case I will need about 8 panel supervisors for the weekends. Please e-mail me if you are interested in participating and let me know your definite dates of availability. Thank you very much. Below is a brief explanation as to what is expected for those who are are fairly new to this process.

Brief Explanation:

The following is an explanation for those who are fairly new to the process:The Emmys are a peer-judged award, meaning that the winners are determined by the entrants' fellow TV professionals. We hold screenings for these judges to watch the entries and vote on them. As a screening supervisor, you will be assigned to one panel of judges, which will watch entries in one category. Your job will be to load the VHS tapes, follow the judges' worksheet to ensure that they watch the tapes in the correct order, and report to an Emmy staffer if any problems or questions arise. The details of this process will be explained in a brief orientation on the morning of the screening.
You should wear presentable office clothes such as you might put on to go to a temp job. Breakfast and lunch is provided for.Our longest panels may last until 5:30PM , but most of you should finish before then. You will be paid by check, $50 for each day you work. Checks will be mailed.

Thank you again and I hope to hear from everyone soon.
